A driver, later identified as Gabriel Lima, age 24, of Lawrence, was first noticed by New Hamshire State Troopers when he flew past a trooper on I-93 in New Hampshire at 109 mph, refused to stop as directed by the officer, and instead sped up to 130 mph as it too the ramp to Interstate 89, according to the New Hampshire State Police.

Another state trooper saw a vehicle stop on the side of the road and turn its lights off. He realized it was the same vehicle from the earlier incident, but when the driver saw the trooper he drove off again, this time turning into the parking lot of the Troop D barracks.

It appeared that the driver noticed the State Police sign and made a hasty exit, turning back out of the parking lot and ignoring yet another attempt by law enforcement for him to stop the vehicle.

The driver began elusive maneuvers to avoid state police, operating "erratically," and varying his speeds, and crossing a median on two occasions.

The car eventually struck a concrete curb on Manchester Street in Concord and crashed on the Merrimack River Bridge.

Lima was then taken into custody and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Lima was charged with a number of crimes in relation to this incident:

  • Aggravated DUI
  • Three counts of class A misdemeanor
  • Reckless conduct
  • Two counts of class B felony
  • Disobeying an officer
  • Class A misdemeanor
  • Operating without a license, subsequent offense
  • Class A misdemeanor
  • Two counts crossing a median

Lima is due to be arraigned in the Merrimack County Superior Court on Thursday, July 20, at 1:00 p.m.

No other vehicles were struck or damaged as a result of this operator’s behavior..

This crash and the causing factors remain under investigation. Police ask anyone with any information regarding this incident, please contact Trooper John Zavala at (603) 223-8785 or John.A.Zavala@dos.nh.gov.
